Altho the Bible and Declaration of Independence states that “All men (and woman) are fundamentally created equal”……..Medically, YOU ARE NOT!! Each person carries around with them a different set of genetics, so where you may have a weakness, someone else may not, and vice versa. And everyone has also lived in different ways than others, fueling these type of problems in a certain sub-group-the stomach sufferers. I always tell my patients that if they try to “tuff it out”, the acid which gurgles up your esophagus can damage it and cause cancer, so don’t screw around, treat this condition, and NOW. Most everybody with this problem is alike, they tend to treat this problem, till it goes away, then stop. Wrong!! YOU HAVE TO PREVENT HEARTBURN AND GASTRITIS, NOT SPANK IT NOW AND THEN. Over the last 2 decades many wonderful drugs have gone over the counter. Zantac, Pepcid, Prilosec, etc are the miracle cures for almost 85% of what we suffer from in the stomach department, left untreated and you could develop an ulcer, which means all the acid burned a hole right thru your entire stomach, and that can kill ya. So make sure to take one of those mentioned medications, EVERY DAY, or every other day, or whatever pattern which makes your heartburn go away, and stay with it for life. Then, in the meantime, try to avoid all the foods that you know aggrevate you. When god made your stomach, he didn’t slouch any. He put sulfuric acid, and hydrochloric acid inside your stomach, in order to digest your foods. If you don’t eat breakfast, then you allow those acids to lay all night, then go all morning without being distracted from burning thru the lining of your stomach. And WOW, then what do we do? We get up in the morning and drink coffee. This one particular favorite morning beverage, is one of the best ways to STRENGTHEN the acids, not dilute them. I always tell my patients to promise me to always eat some kind of “stuff” for breakfast. I’m trying to get you to soak up the acids, not force you to eat healthy, so whether it be a honeybun, poptart, cereal, grits or whatever, it’s better than nothing. Show me a person with a stomach problem, and I’ll bet you don’t eat breakfast. And by the way, the alcohol we drink at night, has the chemical properties to breakdown the mucous lining of your stomach, which is the only protection you got for fighting the acid from eating the meat of your stomach linings. Oh the things we do…..which cause us our own pain. Most stomach sufferers, go way back with many habits which cause their own demise. So, next time, think twice when you put something in your stomach, avoid citric juices, fried foods, hot peppers, but most of all, NOTICE WHAT BOTHERS YOU, and what habits you repeat. Try to change your diet, and take a one a day pill forever, and “forgetaboutit”. Do not eat a huge meal and lie down, or it will pour back up your throat during the night.
